Alex Carrigan Obituary Afton, Iowa: Family and friends mourn the loss of 21-year-old Lorimor man who died following tragic accident

LORIMOR, IA — The Lorimor community is mourning the tragic loss of 21-year-old Alex Carrigan, who passed away on April 29, 2025, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Born June 27, 2003, in Maryville, Missouri, Alex was the beloved son of Jeff Carrigan and Cherish Miller. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Larry Miller, and moved to Afton, Iowa, in 2013. A proud graduate of East Union High School’s Class of 2021, Alex was known for his vibrant spirit and athleticism, competing as a four-sport athlete. But above all, he was known for his devotion to Ali—the love of his life—whom he met at just 14 years old.

After high school, the couple moved to Arispe, and Alex began working for Elder Corporation at 18. His strong work ethic and natural skills made him a standout pipelayer and a respected member of the team. On October 21, 2023, Alex and Ali were married and later settled in Lorimor, where they shared a home full of love, laughter, and animals—three dogs, a cat named Ajax, and whatever critter Ali rescued next.

Alex had a deep passion for the outdoors and motorsports. Whether he was riding his beloved Razor, decking out side-by-sides and trucks, or spending weekends fishing and golfing with friends and family, Alex lived fully and generously. He especially enjoyed supporting his younger siblings at ballgames and rodeos, or playing basketball in the shop with his brother, Sam.

Known for his signature goofy smile and a laugh that could light up a room, Alex poured his heart into everything and everyone he loved—especially Ali. The couple was excitedly expecting their first child later this year, a milestone Alex eagerly looked forward to with pride and joy.

Alex is survived by his loving wife, Ali Carrigan of Lorimor; his mother and stepfather, Cherish and Larry Miller of Afton; his brother Samuel Miller; his father and stepmother, Jeff and Julie Carrigan of Macedonia; and extended family including in-laws Andy and Amber Neisemier of Thayer, and Josh and Kristin Jorgenson of Lorimor. He also leaves behind siblings Abbie, Ace, and Axel Neisemier; Savanah and Steven Jorgensen; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a wide circle of friends who were like family.

He was preceded in death by his Aunt Donna Allen, his grandfather Danny Neisemier, and his grandmother Marlene Ferkin.

Alex Carrigan will be remembered as a loyal husband, devoted son and brother, and a friend whose presence brought joy to all who knew him. His life, though tragically cut short, leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to those he held dear.
