It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that WQSB FM 105.1 and the entire Sand Mountain Broadcasting family announce the passing of Rod Sisco, our beloved Afternoon Drive DJ and lifelong friend. Rod’s passing has left an irreplaceable void in our station, our hearts, and our community.

Rod’s journey in radio began in his high school years when he started working weekend shifts at our sister station, Power 107.5 FM (WAVU). Even in those early days, it was evident that Rod had a gift — a voice that conveyed warmth, authenticity, and a comforting familiarity that resonated deeply with listeners across northeast Alabama. His passion for music and storytelling quickly elevated him into a full-time role at WQSB, where he became a fixture on the airwaves for decades.
For many, Rod was more than just a radio personality. He was the voice that kept them company during long drives, the friendly presence that brought music to life in homes and workplaces, and the local voice people trusted to keep them informed and entertained. His Afternoon Drive show became a daily ritual for countless fans, many of whom felt like they knew him personally — because in so many ways, they did. Rod had a rare ability to connect, not just through the airwaves but through every interaction.
Rod wasn’t just part of the radio — he was part of the community. A proud native of Albertville, he supported local events, championed small businesses, and offered his time and talents to countless charitable causes. He made everyone feel like family, whether you were a longtime coworker or a first-time caller to the station. He was as genuine off the mic as he was on it: kind, quick-witted, dependable, and full of heart.
To those of us who had the privilege of working alongside him, Rod was more than a colleague. He was a brother in every way that matters. His laugh filled the halls of the station, his mentorship lifted others around him, and his loyalty never wavered. Rod lived his life with integrity and love for what he did — and it showed in every moment he spent behind the mic.
Rod’s passing is an immense loss to Sand Mountain Broadcasting, and to the many listeners who welcomed him into their lives each afternoon. While his voice may now be silent, the echoes of his laughter, music, and memories will continue to resonate through our community.
We will share details about funeral arrangements as they become available. In the meantime, we ask that you keep Rod’s family, his close friends, and our team in your thoughts and prayers during this heartbreaking time.
Rest easy, Rod. You were the heart of the Afternoon Drive and the soul of our station. Your legacy lives on in the music, the memories, and the countless lives you touched. You will forever be missed — and never forgotten.
