LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A late-night shooting in Louisville’s Fourth Division has left one man dead and a woman recovering in the hospital, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD). The incident, which unfolded just after midnight on Sunday, May 4, occurred in the 400 block of University Boulevard and has shaken the surrounding community.

Officers responded to the scene following multiple reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered two victims—an adult male and an adult female—both suffering from gunshot wounds. The male victim was later identified as Bradley May.
Officers immediately rendered aid and performed life-saving measures until EMS arrived on the scene. Both victims were rushed to University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition.
Despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, Bradley May was pronounced dead later that morning. His passing marks another tragic loss in a city that has seen its share of gun violence. Friends and family of the 400 block resident are now mourning the sudden loss of a man described as loyal, kindhearted, and deeply committed to those close to him.
The female victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was initially listed in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable. According to officials, her injuries are now considered non-life-threatening, and she remains hospitalized as she recovers.
As of Monday, police have not released information regarding a suspect, possible motive, or whether the shooting was targeted. Investigators from LMPD’s Homicide Unit are actively pursuing leads and have asked anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual around the time of the shooting to come forward.
The area near University Boulevard has been the site of occasional violence, but residents say this latest tragedy has left them particularly shaken.
“It’s terrifying to know something like this happened so close to home,” one neighbor told reporters. “Bradley was a good guy—he didn’t deserve this. None of them did.”
Authorities are urging the public to assist in the investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact LMPD’s anonymous tip line at (502) 574-LMPD (5673).
As Louisville continues to grapple with the effects of violent crime, community leaders are calling for renewed efforts to address root causes and improve safety measures in neighborhoods across the city.
In the meantime, those who knew Bradley May are remembering him as a man full of life whose loss will be deeply felt by all who loved him. A vigil is expected to be organized in the coming days to honor his memory and support the woman still recovering.
