FLORENCE, KY — The Boone County Sheriff’s Office has released further details surrounding a tragic murder-suicide that has shaken the Florence community. The deceased have been identified as Robert Sexton, 60, and Sharon Sexton, 60, a married couple whose bodies were discovered inside their home on Castleoak Drive.

Deputies were dispatched to the residence on Monday for a welfare check after one of the Sextons failed to show up for work — a concerning deviation from their normal routine. Upon arrival, deputies forced entry into the home and discovered the bodies of both Robert and Sharon inside.
The Boone County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identities on Tuesday, noting that both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary findings suggest the case is a murder-suicide, although authorities have not yet disclosed who is believed to have been the perpetrator. The specific circumstances of the incident, including the timeline and possible motive, remain under active investigation.
“At this point, all indications point toward a domestic-related murder-suicide,” said a spokesperson from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office. “We are continuing to gather evidence and conduct interviews to better understand what led to this heartbreaking event.”
Neighbors described the Sextons as a quiet couple who had lived in the neighborhood for years. Some expressed shock and sadness, saying there were no obvious signs of trouble from the outside.
“You just never expect something like this to happen so close to home,” one neighbor said. “They kept to themselves, but we always waved. It’s hard to process.”
Investigators have not indicated whether there were any prior reports of domestic disturbances at the address. At this time, authorities are working with the coroner’s office and reviewing evidence from the scene, including any written notes, digital communications, or witness statements that could provide insight into what occurred.
Autopsies are being conducted as part of the ongoing investigation, and toxicology reports will be reviewed to determine whether any substances may have played a role.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office has encouraged the public to reach out if they have any relevant information that may assist investigators in piecing together the events leading up to the tragedy.
In the meantime, community members are left grappling with the sorrow and confusion that so often accompanies incidents of domestic violence. Mental health advocates and local officials are reminding residents of the importance of checking in with loved ones and reaching out for support when warning signs appear.
As more details become available, the Sexton family and the Florence community continue to mourn a tragic and deeply personal loss.
