A retired sergeant from the Chicago Police Department (CPD) has tragically passed away from what authorities believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The news was first reported by the 16th & 17th District Chicago Police Scanner, an X (formerly Twitter) account that monitors police scanner activity in Chicago. The account sourced the details from Spot News, another scanner-monitoring account, which shared raw information from responding officers.
According to reports, CPD officers were dispatched to 5730 Menard following a 911 call. The caller reported that their male friend had died by suicide. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the situation, stating over the radio: “Bonafide DOA, retired sergeant, CPD, apparent self-inflicted wound.”
At this time, the identity of the retired sergeant has not been released, and the CPD continues to investigate the incident. Updates are expected as more details become available.
In response to the heartbreaking news, Blue Lives Matter Chicago, an organization supporting law enforcement, has called for prayers for the CPD and the soul of the deceased sergeant. The loss has deeply impacted the law enforcement community and others who knew the retired officer.
