LORENA, TX – The community of Lorena is mourning the heartbreaking and untimely loss of Landon Harris, an 18-year-old senior at Lorena High School and a beloved former dual-sport athlete, who passed away early Tuesday morning, May 20, following a tragic car accident in Waco.
Landon was more than just a student or an athlete — he was a cornerstone of the Lorena community, remembered for his infectious smile, generous heart, and unwavering kindness. Known to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, Landon was a young man whose presence lifted those around him. Whether on the field, in the classroom, or walking the halls of Lorena High, he was admired for his genuine nature, strong work ethic, and easygoing spirit.
A standout in both football and baseball, Landon exemplified what it meant to be a team player. Coaches and teammates alike describe him as dedicated, disciplined, and dependable, always willing to go the extra mile for his team and his community. His athletic talent was matched only by his sportsmanship and humility — traits that made him a role model for younger students and an anchor for his peers.
Off the field, Landon was known for his deep love of family and tight-knit circle of friends. Those closest to him say he was the kind of person who remembered the small things — who showed up when it mattered, who made people feel seen and valued, and who never failed to crack a joke when it was needed most.
Lorena ISD released a statement offering their condolences and confirming that grief counselors will be available on campus in the coming days to support students and staff during this incredibly difficult time.
As the Lorena community grapples with the loss of a young man whose life held so much promise, tributes have poured in on social media, with classmates, teachers, and friends remembering Landon as “a light,” “a leader,” and “a friend to everyone.”
Landon’s death is a profound loss not only for his family and school, but for the broader Lorena and Waco communities.
