According to Stow Police Department in a media release on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 3:57 pm, Stow Police responded to a report of a possible suicide on Meadowlark Trail. Upon arrival, officers located a male and a female who had been fatally shot inside the home.
This incident is being investigated as a murder / suicide, police confirmed. The involved individuals have been identified as Benjamin Asiedu and Latoia Philpott.
The Summit County Medical’s Examiners Office has ruled Latoia’s death a homicide. She was shot multiple times. Benjamin’s cause of death was ruled a suicide. His cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Benjamin and Latoia had been dating for a little over a year. On Monday, when family members were unable to reach Latoia, they returned to the home and discovered the scene.
Latoia was a mother of five (three adult children and two juveniles). Benjamin had one juvenile daughter. The surviving family was assisted by Summit County Victim’s Assistance and Summit County Children’s Services.
Latoia’s Family issued the following statement:

At this time, we ask for privacy as we navigate this difficult loss and make arrangements. We are truly grateful for the love, support, and condolences we have already received from friends, family, community and local law enforcement during this incredibly challenging time.
