Sterling, VA — The community is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Shahidul Islam, who passed away on the blessed morning of Eid, Friday, June 6, 2025. He was 37 years old.
Affectionately known as “Shahid,” Islam was a beloved member of the local Muslim and broader Sterling community. Born and raised in Sterling, he had recently relocated to Lake Anna, Virginia. His passing has left a profound impact on his family, friends, and all who knew him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Marisa Mullen; his parents, MD Abu Taher and Jahanara Begum; and his siblings, Ayesha, Jahangir, and Jahid. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews—Amima, Adiba, Ayanna, Abdullah, Ahmed, Anais, Chloe, and Makenna—who cherished their uncle dearly. Shahid was also the nephew of longtime ADAMS Center member Abdul Hashem.
In remembrance of Shahid’s life, Salat-al-Janazah (funeral prayer) will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. (Dhuhr prayer) at ADAMS Center in Sterling, Virginia. The burial will follow at Sterling Cemetery, 45835 West Church Road, Sterling, VA 20164.
Family and friends are invited to attend and pay their respects, as the community comes together to honor Shahid’s memory and support his loved ones.
