Wyoming, Minn. — Authorities have confirmed the death of a hospital security guard following an assault on Christmas Day at M Health Fairview Lakes Medical Center.

The Wyoming Police Department announced that Andrea Merrell, 43, of North Branch, Minnesota, died from injuries sustained during the December 25, 2025, incident. Merrell was employed as a security officer at the medical center.
Police said the suspect, Jonathan Winch, 35, of Chisago City, has been arrested and is currently being held at the Chisago County Jail. Formal charges are pending review by the Chisago County Attorney’s Office.
In a statement, the Wyoming Police Department extended condolences to Merrell’s family, loved ones, coworkers, and the staff at M Health Fairview Lakes Medical Center, calling the loss deeply tragic.
“The investigation remains ongoing,” police said, adding that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
