Bailee Brooks and Serenity Gross Obituary: Lutherville Lab Elementary School community mourn the loss of 3rd grade students killed in tragic car accident over the weekend

LUTHERVILLE, MD — The Lutherville Lab Elementary School community is grieving a profound and heartbreaking loss following a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of two of its cherished students. On April 5, 2025, third graders Bailee Brooks and Serenity Gross were tragically killed in the crash, sending waves of shock and sorrow throughout the school and surrounding community.

Bailee and Serenity were not just students — they were radiant spirits who touched the lives of everyone around them. Teachers, classmates, and staff describe them as bright, kind-hearted, and full of joy. Whether it was in the classroom, on the playground, or during school events, Bailee and Serenity exuded warmth and enthusiasm that brought happiness to their peers and inspiration to their educators.

Principal Lauren Whitaker released a heartfelt statement, saying, “We are devastated by the loss of Bailee and Serenity. They were shining lights in our school—always smiling, always kind. Our hearts are broken for their families, their teachers, and all of our students who are struggling to understand this tragedy. We will do everything we can to support one another in the days ahead.”

The accident occurred Saturday afternoon, though details surrounding the crash remain under investigation by local authorities. What remains certain, however, is the impact that this loss has had on the tight-knit Lutherville community.

Grief counselors and support staff were immediately made available at the school to help students and faculty begin to process the tragedy. A dedicated “remembrance space” was created in the school library where students can leave notes, drawings, and flowers in memory of their classmates.

Parents have joined together to form support groups, and a candlelight vigil is planned for later this week in front of the school. A GoFundMe campaign has also been established to assist the families with funeral expenses and has already seen an outpouring of support.

One teacher tearfully recalled how Bailee loved to draw and tell stories, and how Serenity always made sure no classmate ever felt left out. “They had a special friendship that lit up our classroom,” she said. “They were kind to everyone. They loved learning and they loved each other.”

The Baltimore County Public Schools Superintendent also extended condolences, stating, “We are heartbroken over this terrible loss. Our thoughts are with the families of Bailee and Serenity, and with the entire Lutherville Lab Elementary School community during this deeply painful time.”

As the community continues to rally around the grieving families, the legacy of Bailee Brooks and Serenity Gross will be one of light, love, and friendship. Though their time here was far too short, their memories will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved them.

In the face of unimaginable sorrow, Lutherville stands united in grief, remembrance, and love.
