RANDOLPH, N.J. — April 11, 2025 — A tragic four-vehicle crash in Randolph has left three adults dead and two children injured, following a devastating collision Thursday afternoon on Route 10. Authorities say the crash occurred around 3:20 p.m. at the intersection of Route 10 and Millbrook Avenue and is now the subject of an ongoing investigation.
The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, in conjunction with the Randolph Police Department and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed Friday that the incident involved a school minivan affiliated with the P.G. Chambers School in Cedar Knolls. The van was transporting both students and school staff at the time of the collision.
Officials have identified the three deceased victims as:
- Bertha Castaneda, 67, of Dover
- Diane Goetz, 71, of Randolph
- Maria Z. Figueroa, 58, of Wharton
Castaneda and Figueroa were passengers in the school minivan, authorities said. Goetz’s involvement was not detailed further, though she was confirmed as a victim of the crash.
Two children were injured in the crash and transported to local hospitals for treatment. Their current conditions have not been made public. Additionally, two other adults sustained injuries but were treated at the scene and released.
Emergency responders, including officers from the Randolph Police Department, detectives from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and members of the Morris County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit, worked into the evening Thursday to secure the area and collect evidence.
In a statement Friday morning, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll addressed the gravity of the tragedy:
“This is a heartbreaking incident that has shaken the Morris County community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who have lost loved ones, and with those recovering from injuries. We urge the public to be mindful and respectful when sharing information about this incident, as the emotional toll is significant for many.”
Officials have not yet disclosed what may have caused the crash, and they are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
