Binghamton Motorcycle Accident: One dead, two fighting for life after Thursday multi-vehicle crash on I-81 at the Great Bend Exit

Broome County, NY – Authorities have confirmed a fatal crash involving three motorcycles on Interstate 81 Northbound near mile marker one, prompting a temporary road closure and an ongoing investigation.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office reported that emergency responders arrived at the scene around 4:00 p.m., where they found multiple individuals with serious injuries. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were transported to Wilson Hospital for treatment. Their conditions remain undisclosed at this time.

Traffic Disruptions and Investigation

Following the crash, all northbound lanes of I-81 were shut down at the Great Bend Exit, with traffic being rerouted via Route 11 to Exit 1 in Kirkwood. The New York State Department of Transportation, local police, and EMS crews responded to the scene, working to clear debris and assist those injured.

As of 7:15 p.m., all lanes have been reopened, but authorities have stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
