LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Fla. — A 20-year-old Mayo man was killed late Tuesday night in a violent rollover crash on County Road 536, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The single-vehicle accident occurred just before 11 p.m. near NE Edward Perry Lane.

In a statement released early Wednesday, FHP said the driver was traveling westbound when his vehicle drifted off the roadway and onto the south grass shoulder. Moments after leaving the pavement, the vehicle overturned, rolling multiple times with enough force to eject the driver.
Troopers confirmed the young man—identified locally as Caleb Reed—was pronounced dead at the scene. FHP reported that next of kin has been notified.
Investigators have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. The crash remains under investigation as troopers examine whether speed, impairment, road conditions, or other factors may have contributed.
News of Reed’s death has left the Mayo community heartbroken. Friends and family described him as a kind and respectful young man whose loss will be deeply felt.
“He was a very respectful young man,” one family acquaintance said.
Amanda Reed, sharing her grief publicly, offered a heartfelt tribute:
“I am so incredibly sorry for your loss and I am praying for you and Corey. I know how much Caleb means to you. Not a hair appointment passed without you talking about him — you were so proud. I love you, and please let me know if there’s anything I can do for you.”
As investigators continue working to piece together what happened, FHP is urging drivers to remain vigilant on Florida’s roadways, use seatbelts, and take extra caution during nighttime travel when visibility is reduced.
