MOUNT PLEASANT, TX — A routine school field trip took a terrifying turn on Thursday when a vehicle crashed into a Cicis Pizza restaurant in Mount Pleasant, injuring multiple sixth-grade students from Chapel Hill Independent School District.
According to officials, the incident occurred while students were dining at the popular pizza buffet during their class outing. The Mount Pleasant Police Department confirmed that six students and four adults sustained injuries in the crash. All injured individuals were transported to a local medical center for evaluation and treatment. The extent of the injuries has not been publicly disclosed.
Emergency personnel responded swiftly to the scene, and Chapel Hill ISD officials say that all remaining students have been accounted for and either reunited with their families or transported safely back to campus.
“Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” the district said in a statement. “District staff and counselors are available to provide support to students and families as needed during this difficult time.”
Officials have not yet released details on what caused the vehicle to plow into the restaurant. The incident remains under investigation by local law enforcement.
In a message to parents, the district asked families to avoid the crash scene to allow emergency responders to do their work. Parents and guardians seeking information were advised to contact the Chapel Hill Junior High campus office at 903-572-9096 ext. 497.
