A devastating boating accident in Charlotte Harbor has claimed the life of 27-year-old Nicholas Knowlton, leaving family, friends, and local residents in deep mourning. The fatal crash occurred Friday evening, November 1, when Knowlton’s 22-foot vessel struck a rock jetty near Fisherman’s Village, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
Authorities say the collision happened around 9 p.m. Knowlton was operating the boat in the harbor when the vessel made impact with the rocky structure. The force of the crash was so severe that it threw him from the boat and into the water.
Good Samaritans nearby, along with an officer from the Punta Gorda Police Department, immediately rushed into action and attempted to rescue Knowlton, pulling him from the water and administering emergency lifesaving measures. Despite their urgent efforts, Knowlton succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed that the incident remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine what led to the fatal collision and whether any additional contributing factors were involved. FWC officials released a statement expressing their sorrow and extending support to Knowlton’s loved ones:
