The Fayetteville community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Chong Hwa Otis, 69, who died Thursday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash on Bragg Boulevard near the I-295 northbound off-ramp. The fatal collision occurred at approximately 1:42 p.m., prompting a rapid response from Fayetteville Police, EMS, and fire personnel.

According to investigators, the crash involved a white 2025 Chevrolet Silverado traveling south on Bragg Boulevard and a grey 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Mrs. Otis as she exited from I-295. Authorities say the vehicles collided near the bottom of the ramp, causing severe damage. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by first responders, Mrs. Otis was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been notified, and the community is extending heartfelt condolences as they cope with this sudden and devastating loss.
The driver of the Silverado, 58-year-old Wilton Allen Nickerson of Stedman, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment. His condition has not yet been made public.
