A third-year student at Cal Poly, Christina DeChalk, passed away on Sunday, the university confirmed, marking a second tragedy within the same local sorority in less than a year.
In an email to students and faculty, Cal Poly announced Christina’s passing but did not disclose details regarding the cause of death. She was a computer science major and a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Her death comes less than a year after the loss of Sofia Padoan, the sorority’s president, who passed away from a brain aneurysm on February 23.
On Tuesday evening, a reporter from The Tribune visited the Kappa Kappa Gamma house on California Boulevard, but a woman outside, visibly emotional, stated that the sorority would not be commenting at this time as she carried candles inside.
Christina was deeply cherished by her family and friends. She was a loving daughter, sister, and friend whose adventurous spirit, passion for learning, and dedication to her studies inspired many. Those who knew her will always remember her for her kindness, generosity, and the warmth she brought into every interaction.
While the circumstances surrounding Christina DeChalk’s passing have not been officially confirmed, her sudden loss has left a profound impact on those who loved her. As her family and friends mourn, the community is coming together to offer their support and condolences.
