Christopher Rasco and Jade Herb Murder-Suicide: Man killed girlfriend before taking own life at the Onyx 183 apartment complex in Northwest Austin

A quiet community in Northwest Austin is reeling after police confirmed a tragic murder-suicide at the Onyx 183 apartment complex earlier this week. Authorities have identified the parties involved as Jade Herb, 25, and Christopher Rasco, 23.

According to the Austin Police Department, officers were dispatched to the complex, located at 6800 McNeil Drive, around 8:43 a.m. on Sunday, April 14. The response came after a concerned friend placed a welfare check call, reporting she had not heard from Herb in almost a week — a worrying silence that ultimately led to the heartbreaking discovery.

Upon arrival, officers entered the apartment unit and found both Rasco and Herb deceased. Investigators believe, based on preliminary evidence at the scene, that Rasco fatally shot Herb before turning the weapon on himself.

The incident has devastated friends, family, and neighbors who are struggling to comprehend the tragedy. Jade Herb, remembered as a bright and compassionate young woman, had her entire life ahead of her. Friends described her as someone who “always lit up the room with her laughter” and “had dreams of making a difference in the world.”

Christopher Rasco, also known among acquaintances, had reportedly been in a relationship with Herb, although little has been disclosed about any previous signs of trouble. Authorities have not released details regarding what may have led to the violence, citing an ongoing investigation.

The Austin Police Department is continuing to gather information to complete their findings. Officials have asked anyone who may have knowledge about the couple or the days leading up to the incident to contact APD at 512-974-TIPS.
