Cosmo Silverman Campbell Hall Obituary: The general Campbell Hall school community mourn the loss of student who died after being stuck between cars in Studio City

STUDIO CITY, Calif. — Heartbreak has struck the Campbell Hall Episcopal School community as students, faculty, and families mourn the tragic death of Cosmo Silverman, a 15-year-old student who died following a devastating accident on campus Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 3:10 p.m. in the school’s pickup area, when Cosmo was walking toward his father’s car. As he moved between two parked vehicles, one of them — a Rivian SUV — unexpectedly moved forward, pinning the teenager between the cars.

LAPD Lt. Matthew Bielski said investigators are still working to determine what caused the SUV to lurch forward. “The vehicle that the student walked in between moved forward,” Bielski said during a press briefing. No immediate conclusions have been made as to whether mechanical failure or driver error played a role in the incident.

Cosmo was transported in critical condition to the trauma center at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Despite efforts to save him, he was later pronounced dead.

The tragedy has left the tight-knit Campbell Hall community in shock. Grief counselors and school officials have been on hand to support students and staff as they process the loss of a classmate and friend.

“Cosmo was a bright light in our community,” a school spokesperson said in a statement Wednesday evening. “His kindness, creativity, and joyful spirit touched many lives, and we are devastated by his sudden passing. Our hearts are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.”

An outpouring of condolences has come from parents, students, and educators throughout Studio City, with many remembering Cosmo as a thoughtful and curious young man with a love for learning and a gentle presence.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the school has pledged its full cooperation as details emerge.

As the Campbell Hall community grieves this unimaginable loss, plans are underway to honor Cosmo’s memory in the coming days. More information about memorial services is expected to be released by the family soon.

Cosmo Silverman was just 15. His life, though far too brief, left a lasting impression on those who knew him — a testament to the joy, kindness, and promise he brought into the world.
