Richmond, VA — The Tomahawk Middle School community in Chesterfield County is grieving the loss of one of its most cherished educators, Davilee Nicole Criss Kadrlik, who passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at the age of 51. Known for her vibrant spirit, boundless creativity, and deep compassion for her students, Kadrlik leaves behind a legacy that has touched countless lives.

A proud graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, Kadrlik began her professional journey as an artist and performer, bravely chasing her musical and acting dreams in Los Angeles. There, she shared her original music on stages like the iconic House of Blues, embodying the bold, passionate spirit that would later define her teaching career.
Returning to her roots in Richmond, Kadrlik found her true calling in education—specifically in special education, where her empathy, patience, and unwavering belief in her students’ potential made her a standout figure. She began teaching at Falling Creek Middle School and later joined the faculty at Tomahawk Middle School, where she spent the latter part of her 20-plus-year career inspiring young minds and supporting her fellow educators.
“Davilee had a rare gift for seeing the beauty and promise in every student,” said a colleague at Tomahawk. “She brought light into our classrooms—through music, through laughter, and through love.”
Beyond the classroom, Kadrlik was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She is survived by her husband, Ben Kadrlik, and her two daughters, Leighton and Evelyn Kadrlik. Her mother, JoAnn Parsons Criss, her sister, Angela Criss, and her niece and nephew, Freedom and Jobie, also survive her. She was predeceased by her father, Robert Criss.
Kadrlik’s love for her family was a constant in her life. She especially cherished time spent at the family condo in Virginia Beach—sharing laughter, memories, and music with those closest to her.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Garden Hall at Maymont Park. Friends, colleagues, former students, and all whose lives were touched by her are invited to attend and honor her memory. Parking will be available at the Historical Estate Entrance at 1700 Hampton Street in Richmond.
Davilee Kadrlik will be remembered not only for her talents and dedication but for the joy and kindness she shared so freely. Her legacy lives on in every student she believed in, every note she sang, and every life she lifted with her compassion.
