NEW BERLIN, WI — The community of New Berlin is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Ellis Jessel, a 10-year-old Orchard Lane Elementary School student who tragically died following a boating accident on Little Muskego Lake Saturday morning.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), emergency responders were called to the scene near Idle Isle Park shortly after 10 a.m. on June 7, after reports of a serious collision involving two boats. First responders from the Muskego Police Department and Tess Corners Fire Department provided immediate medical aid to the young boy before he was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a boat being operated by a 74-year-old man—with one other adult on board—struck a stationary vessel occupied by three individuals, including Ellis. No other significant injuries were reported in the incident.
The DNR, in coordination with local law enforcement, continues to investigate the cause of the collision. At this time, no charges have been announced.
Ellis Jessel is being remembered by family, friends, and school staff as a bright, kind-hearted fourth grader whose joyful spirit touched everyone around him. A student at Orchard Lane Elementary, Ellis was known for his love of learning, his warm personality, and the light he brought into every room he entered.
The Jessel family is enduring unimaginable grief as they navigate the loss of their beloved son and brother.
As the investigation continues, loved ones are asking for privacy and prayers during this difficult time. A memorial service is expected to be announced in the coming days.
Ellis Jessel’s passing serves as a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the deep impact one young life can have on an entire community. He will be remembered not only for the joy he brought to those who knew him, but for the love and kindness that defined his too-brief time on earth.
