Surrey Police have opened a murder investigation following a fatal stabbing outside The Wheatsheaf pub on Kingston Road in Ewell on Tuesday, prompting a major emergency response and significant disruption in the area.

Officers and paramedics were called to the scene at the popular pub, located at 34 Kingston Road, after reports of a violent assault. Despite the swift arrival of emergency crews, the victim—whose identity has not yet been released—was pronounced dead at the scene.
As of Tuesday evening, no arrests had been made. Police cordons remain in place around the pub as detectives from Surrey Police’s Major Crime Team carry out extensive enquiries. Forensic officers have been examining the area, while investigators continue to take witness statements and review CCTV footage from nearby businesses and residences in an effort to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The incident has led to the closure of Kingston Road, causing delays and diversions across Ewell and neighbouring Epsom. Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes while the investigation continues.
In a statement, a Surrey Police spokesperson said officers are “working diligently to piece together a full timeline of events” and stressed the importance of public cooperation.
Anyone who was in the vicinity of The Wheatsheaf around the time of the incident—or who has relevant dash-cam or CCTV footage—is urged to contact Surrey Police through their non-emergency line or online reporting system.
Police say further updates will be provided as more verified information becomes available.
