Family and friends mourn the loss of 29-year-old Freeland, Maryland man killed in early Thursday crash in Shrewsbury Township

SHREWSBURY TOWNSHIP, PA – A tragic car crash early Thursday morning in Shrewsbury Township claimed the life of 29-year-old Kasey Trent of Freeland, Maryland. The accident, which occurred at the intersection of Seltz Road/Route 851 and Country Club Road, also resulted in a hazardous propane leak, prompting an emergency response.

High-Speed Crash Ends in Fatality

According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers were dispatched to the crash site around 1:54 a.m.. Investigators determined that Trent was driving southbound on Seltz Road when he attempted to navigate a left-hand curve at high speeds. He lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and collided with a tree before overturning.

Trent sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Propane Leak Prompts Emergency Response

During the crash, Trent’s vehicle struck a gas line, causing a dangerous propane leak in the 2300 block of Seltz Road. The York County Hazmat Team was called to the scene to address the hazardous situation.

According to Ted Czech of the York County Office of Emergency Management, investigators discovered that the vehicle had hit the valves of an underground propane tank, which protruded above ground. The impact ruptured the tank, resulting in the leak.

Authorities worked swiftly to contain the gas leak, ensuring no further risk to nearby residents. No additional injuries were reported.

Ongoing Investigation

The Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. While speed has been cited as a contributing factor, authorities are working to determine if any other factors may have played a role.

Officials urge motorists to exercise caution on winding roads, especially at night when visibility is reduced.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of high-speed driving and the potential consequences that can extend beyond just the driver.
