Jackson, Miss. — A late-night shooting in Jackson has left one man dead and three others wounded, marking yet another act of gun violence to rattle the city.
According to the Jackson Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 11 p.m. Saturday on Dogwood Trail. When authorities arrived, they discovered 48-year-old Roosevelt Denson Jr. suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three additional victims were also injured during the shooting. Police said all three were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Their conditions have not yet been released, but officials confirmed they remain under medical care.
The scene drew a heavy police presence late into the night as investigators canvassed the neighborhood, speaking with residents and gathering evidence. Hinds County Coroner Jerimiah Howard also responded to assist with the investigation.
Details surrounding what led to the shooting remain unclear. Police have not identified any suspects or announced any arrests as of Sunday morning. Authorities say they are working to determine whether the incident was targeted or if it stemmed from a domestic dispute, retaliation, or other criminal activity.
Neighbors reported hearing a rapid succession of gunshots before seeing first responders flood the street. Several expressed frustration at the ongoing violence plaguing the city.
“It feels like every week we’re hearing about another shooting,” one resident told reporters. “It’s scary, and we’re tired of living in fear.”
