QUEENS, NY — Authorities are investigating after a man’s body was found Saturday morning on a sidewalk near William Cullen Bryant High School in the Astoria neighborhood.
According to the New York Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call just before 10:30 a.m. reporting an unconscious person on the sidewalk near 31st Avenue and 48th Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unidentified male lying motionless.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were immediately called to the scene. Paramedics pronounced the man dead shortly after their arrival.
In a preliminary assessment, police reported no visible signs of trauma to the body. As a result, investigators have not yet classified the death as suspicious. However, the exact cause of death remains undetermined pending an autopsy by the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The scene remained cordoned off for several hours as investigators photographed the area and interviewed potential witnesses. Several students and staff from the nearby high school reportedly observed the heavy police presence but were not believed to have been directly involved.
Authorities are working to identify the deceased and notify his next of kin. No identification documents were immediately found at the scene, and the man’s age and other personal details have not been released to the public.
In the meantime, NYPD officials are asking anyone who may have been in the area earlier in the morning and witnessed anything unusual to come forward with information.
The death has caused a ripple of concern among local residents and school families, though officials emphasized there is no indication of any threat to the surrounding community.
William Cullen Bryant High School continued operating under normal conditions, and no lockdown or evacuation procedures were deemed necessary.
The investigation remains active as police await the results of the medical examiner’s report, which will be crucial in determining whether any further investigative steps are required.
