Further details released in altercation that led to Shatice Jackson fatally hitting Mickese Bostic with vehicle on Lisa Lane in Birmingham, Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, AL — New details have emerged surrounding a devastating incident in east Birmingham that left a father of young children dead during a family gathering on Easter Sunday.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 27-year-old Mickese James Bostic. Authorities say Bostic was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by Shatice Jackson, the mother of his children, during a domestic dispute at a home in the 700 block of Lisa Lane.

According to Birmingham police, the violence unfolded shortly before 10 p.m. on Sunday, during a dual celebration for Easter and the birthday of one of the couple’s children. A large gathering of family and friends had filled the home and front yard when the altercation between Bostic and Jackson turned deadly.

Initial reports to East Precinct officers were of shots fired at the home. That call was quickly updated to report that a woman was attempting to run over a man with a vehicle. Upon arriving at the chaotic scene, officers discovered Bostic trapped between the vehicle and the house. Emergency crews from Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service rushed to assist, but Bostic was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:21 p.m.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald of the Birmingham Police Department described the scene as highly volatile, with a large and distraught crowd of family members present. Due to the difficulty in securing the area and controlling the crowd, a “max emergency” was declared, calling in officers from all four precincts across the city. More than 25 police units responded to the tense situation.

Investigators later determined that Jackson had fired a gun inside the house prior to the deadly crash, although no shots were fired after police arrived. Fitzgerald confirmed that the domestic dispute was between two individuals who were still in an ongoing relationship at the time of the incident.

“The loss of life, especially in front of children and during what was supposed to be a day of celebration, is heartbreaking,” Fitzgerald said during a press briefing.

Jackson was taken into custody at the scene. Police have not yet announced what charges she will face as the investigation continues.

The tragic death of Mickese Bostic has rocked the community, leaving family, friends, and neighbors in shock. Loved ones describe Bostic as a devoted father who cherished his children and family moments.

Authorities continue to interview witnesses and gather evidence to determine the full sequence of events that led to the deadly confrontation.

The Birmingham Police Department is urging anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
