Further details released in Sunday crash that killed 28-year-old Gemico Ruffin in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, LA – The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal crash that occurred Sunday afternoon on Interstate 110 as 28-year-old Gemico Ruffin.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the crash was reported around 4:30 p.m., when Ruffin’s vehicle veered off the roadway for reasons that remain under investigation. Emergency responders and traffic homicide detectives were quickly dispatched to the scene.

Authorities confirmed that Ruffin, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were believed to be involved in the incident.

The crash prompted significant traffic restrictions in the area as police and emergency crews worked to investigate the scene and remove the wrecked vehicle. The roadway remained partially closed until approximately 6:45 p.m., when a tow truck successfully recovered the vehicle and traffic resumed.

At this time, investigators have not released details about what may have caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. Toxicology results and further analysis are pending through the coroner’s office as part of the ongoing investigation.

Family, friends, and members of the Baton Rouge community have begun mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Ruffin, who is remembered as a kind-hearted young man whose life ended far too soon.
