The Strongsville, Ohio community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 49-year-old Gina Guyer, who was tragically shot and killed on Halloween night in what investigators are calling a domestic-related incident. The fatal shooting occurred Thursday evening and has left family, friends, and neighbors stunned and grieving.

According to Strongsville Police and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, officers were dispatched just after 8 p.m. to a residence in the 22400 block of Rock Creek Circle after multiple reports of gunfire. When authorities entered the home, they found Guyer suffering from a gunshot wound, and the suspected shooter — identified as 74-year-old Gene Tomcho of North Ridgeville — still inside holding a handgun.
Investigators said officers repeatedly instructed Tomcho to drop the weapon, but before they could take him into custody, he reportedly turned the gun on himself and attempted to take his own life. Emergency personnel transported both individuals to MetroHealth Medical Center. Guyer was tragically pronounced deceased due to her injuries. Tomcho survived the self-inflicted gunshot wound and is currently hospitalized under law enforcement supervision.
Police confirmed Tomcho has been charged with murder and felonious assault, and additional charges are expected as the case continues to be reviewed by prosecutors. Detectives are actively working to determine the events and circumstances that led to this violent and devastating tragedy.
Officials stressed that this was an isolated incident involving individuals known to each other and assured residents there is no ongoing threat to the public.
As news of Gina Guyer’s death spreads, the Strongsville community is left in shock. Those who knew her describe her as warm, compassionate, and deeply loved by family and friends.
