Hammonton Plane Crash: Mid-Air Collision Involving Two Helicopters Kills One in Hammonton, New Jersey

HAMMONTON, N.J. — Authorities are investigating a fatal helicopter collision that occurred just before noon near Basin Road and the White Horse Pike in Hammonton.

Hammonton police confirmed that two helicopters collided midair and subsequently crash-landed near the intersection of Basin Road, Route 206, and North White Horse Pike. At least one person was killed in the incident, and another person was injured. The extent of injuries has not yet been released.

Police said one of the helicopters went down and became engulfed in flames, while the second aircraft crashed in a nearby wooded area, making access difficult for emergency crews. Multiple fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, and additional resources were requested due to the complexity of the crash.

Emergency responders reported at least one individual was extricated from the wreckage during rescue efforts. Authorities initially worked to determine whether additional occupants may have been involved, though the total number of people aboard the helicopters has not yet been confirmed.

Video circulating on social media appears to show one helicopter spiraling toward the ground following the collision; however, officials have not verified the footage or confirmed the cause of the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified and will lead the investigation into the incident. Local authorities said the investigation remains in its early stages.

Residents are being asked to avoid the area to allow first responders and investigators to safely conduct emergency operations. Officials said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
