It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Neal “Divemaster” Garrett, Full Member-24026 of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA), who passed away at his home on the night of August 13, 2025.
Divemaster was a cherished member of KS 21-3 and served our veteran and biker communities with unwavering dedication, courage, and heart. His loss leaves a significant void among those who knew him and were fortunate to call him friend and mentor.
Divemaster joined the CVMA in 2019 and quickly became an integral part of the organization. From his earliest days, he committed himself to leadership and service, holding multiple key positions within KS 21-3, including Chapter Webmaster, Chapter Road Captain, Chapter Treasurer, and two terms as Chapter Commander.
At the time of his passing, he was serving as the Kansas State Public Relations Officer, a role in which he exemplified dedication, professionalism, and a deep care for fellow veterans. His tireless efforts ensured that the voice of veterans and CVMA members reached far and wide, strengthening both local and national communities.
His commitment to the CVMA went beyond leadership. Divemaster consistently attended CVMA National Meetings from 2021 through 2025, representing Kansas with pride and passion.
He also made annual trips to multiple regional events, demonstrating his unwavering support for veterans and the brotherhood the CVMA fosters. Just prior to his passing, he returned from the iconic Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, a testament to his love of riding and the camaraderie of the motorcycle community.
Divemaster’s service extended far beyond the motorcycle world. He retired from the United States Army in 2019 after nearly two decades of active duty, during which he exemplified courage, leadership, and selfless dedication.
He completed five combat tours—two in Iraq and three in Afghanistan—serving his country with distinction under the most challenging conditions. Throughout his military career, he earned numerous prestigious awards and honors, including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Pathfinder Badge.
These accolades reflect not only his skill and bravery but also his unwavering commitment to his fellow soldiers and to the mission at hand. In addition to his formal achievements, Divemaster earned special recognition within the CVMA, completing the LRRP “Tri-State” and LRRP “Finish the Mission” challenges in 2021.
These honors underscored his dedication to pushing limits, supporting fellow veterans, and embodying the CVMA’s values of loyalty, perseverance, and service.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Neal “Divemaster” Garrett remember him as more than a veteran or leader. He was a mentor, a friend, and a steadfast presence in the lives of those around him.
Whether riding in formation, guiding a chapter meeting, or quietly offering support to a fellow veteran, Divemaster demonstrated compassion, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility. His energy, warmth, and leadership left an indelible mark on the CVMA community and on everyone who crossed his path.
Funeral arrangements will be shared as they become available. In this time of profound loss, we ask that you keep the Garrett family in your thoughts and prayers.
