Halifax police have classified the death of a man in Dartmouth early Sunday morning as a homicide. Officers responded to multiple reports of gunshots near Lahey Road and Clarence Street shortly before 3 a.m.

Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds: a 30-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman. Both were transported to the hospital. The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the man later succumbed to his wounds.

Family members identified the victim as Isaac Downey in social media posts. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support his young family.

“He leaves behind his loving partner … and their two beautiful twin daughters together, who were his entire world,” reads the GoFundMe page. “This unimaginable loss has left [his] family heartbroken as they try to navigate life without him.”

Const. Martin Cromwell, a spokesperson for Halifax police, confirmed that the provincial medical examiner’s service has ruled the death a homicide. He did not disclose whether any arrests have been made.

Police have stated that there is no indication at this time that the incident was related to intimate partner violence.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact Halifax police.
