Meanwhile, two women are in critical but stable condition following a car accident on Saturday night near the Burger King on the 3800 block of Campbell Avenue in Lynchburg,
Lynchburg police said the incident happened just after 10 p.m. A 66-year-old man’s car struck the victims, who were 44 and 66 years old. The driver is assisting with the inquiry, and no charges have been brought against him.
Lynchburg police spokesperson John Hartzell stressed the need of pedestrian safety, particularly at night. “If you’re a pedestrian walking late at night and you know you are going to be crossing roads, wearing bright colors or reflective gear is always a must to stay safe, never trust that a driver sees you,” he stated.
Both drivers and pedestrians are concerned about decreased visibility at night, according to the police. They cautioned people to “be mindful of turning cars and make sure you’re looking both ways.” There is no crosswalk and the area of Campbell Avenue where the accident happened is very dark.
