Born on January 28, 1953, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, John’s life was marked by selfless service, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to both his country and his community.
From a young age, John embodied the values of discipline and dedication that would guide him throughout his life. He proudly served nine years in the U.S. Air Force, working as an electrician in the Strategic Air Command, where his exceptional skill and work ethic earned him multiple commendations, including the prestigious Airman of the Year Award in 1976. His time in uniform not only honed his technical expertise but also strengthened his deep sense of purpose—a drive to serve others that continued long after his military career ended.
Following his honorable service, John transitioned seamlessly into civilian life, channeling his knowledge and leadership into the HVAC and maintenance industries. His natural aptitude for problem-solving and his commitment to excellence led him to success in multiple roles, including Plant Manager at a local pickle processing facility and later as Maintenance Facility Manager for La Junta Public Schools. Colleagues and staff remember him as a fair, dependable leader who led by example and treated everyone with respect.
But beyond his professional achievements, John’s legacy shines brightest through his acts of kindness and his devotion to family and faith. Friends and neighbors recall how he was always willing to lend a hand—repairing a heater for an elderly widow, helping with church maintenance, or mentoring young workers just starting out in their careers.
