The Pleasant Grove community in Texarkana is reeling from the sudden and tragic death of Kaden Allen, a former standout offensive lineman for the Hawks football team. Allen, who earned 2023 7-4A All-District First Team honors, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 4. He was just 18 years old.
News of Allen’s passing has sent shockwaves through the Pleasant Grove football program and beyond. Coaches, teammates, and loved ones are remembering a young man whose impact reached far beyond the football field.
“There’s no way to fully express who Kaden was,” said a former coach. “He was full of life, full of heart, and full of promise. On the field, he gave everything he had. Off the field, he brought joy wherever he went. He was the kind of player—and person—you never forget.”
Known for his strength, grit, and unwavering commitment to his team, Allen was also deeply respected for his character. Teammates looked up to him not just for his athleticism but for his kindness, loyalty, and infectious energy.
Family members describe Kaden as a “beautiful soul” with a “precious spirit”—always smiling, always being goofy, and always looking out for others. He was known for sending heartfelt messages to friends and family, often expressing gratitude, encouragement, and love.
“Kaden spent quality time with everyone in our family,” one relative shared. “He was uplifting, thoughtful, and full of love. He loved God, loved going to church, and truly cared about people.”
Beyond his athletic talents, Allen was remarkably independent. He recently enrolled at Texas A&M University–Texarkana (TAMUT), where he took the initiative to organize his college schedule, meet with counselors, and handle his financial aid—steps few teenagers tackle without help. His dream was to become a coach, inspired by his admiration for his own coaches at Pleasant Grove, especially Coach Gibson, whom he hoped to emulate.
“Kaden loved Pleasant Grove football,” said a family member. “He cherished the relationships he built there, and he was proud of the legacy he helped create.”
As the Texarkana community comes together to grieve, the overwhelming sentiment is clear: Kaden Allen made an indelible mark in his short time on earth. Whether on the football field, in the classroom, or among friends and family, he brought light and joy wherever he went.
“He left us far too soon,” said his coach. “But the impact he made—on me, on his teammates, and on everyone who knew him—will live on.”
