SANDUSKY, OH — The local broadcasting community and residents across northern Ohio are mourning the loss of Kami Moon, a beloved radio personality known for her raspy voice, sharp wit, and infectious laugh. Moon passed away on April 20, 2025, at 5:45 a.m., leaving behind a legacy of entertainment, community service, and warmth that touched countless lives.

Born January 21, 1978, Kami Moon made her entrance into the world just in time to witness the infamous Blizzard of 1978. Her remarkable sense of timing would become a signature throughout her life, whether on the airwaves or in her personal interactions.
Moon graduated from Edison High School in 1996 and went on to study at the Ohio School of Broadcasting in Valley View. Early in her career, she interned with the Billy Bass radio show in Cleveland and contributed to WGAR’s “Coats for Kids” drive. Her passion for broadcasting quickly propelled her to the microphone, where she found her true calling.
She first won over listeners on the “Cooking with Kami” program on WLKR in Norwalk — a show where she admitted to preferring eating over cooking but nonetheless delighted audiences with lively conversation and recipes. Her career flourished when she moved to K96 Country, an Elyria/Lorain Broadcasting network, where she spent 24 years hosting morning shows alongside colleagues Tim Kelly, Mike Jeffries, and Josh Bowman.
In October 2024, Kami began hosting her own show, “Moon Over Mid-Day,” a role she cherished until February 2025. Beyond her on-air work, she served as Programming and Promotions Director, using her talents to support numerous local causes and events.
Moon was a tireless advocate for community organizations, serving as an emcee and supporter for events like “Girls Night Out” for breast cancer awareness, the Erie County Humane Society, and the Maxton Soviak Foundation. She organized 24 consecutive Firefighters Chili Cook-Offs and multiple Listener Appreciation Jams at the Huron Boat Basin. Fair season was another favorite time of year, with Moon frequently broadcasting live from local county fairs across Erie, Huron, Lorain, and Sandusky counties.
Outside of broadcasting, Moon embraced life with energy and heart. She worked in restaurants from the age of 15, including stints at Marconi’s, Olive Garden, and Sandusky Bay Pancake House. She found joy in tending to her flower boxes, hosting Harry Potter marathons, and gathering with family for games and laughter.
Kami Moon was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Bea and Ted Ickes of Norwalk; her paternal grandparents, Irma and Arthur Moon of Berlin Heights; her daughter, Autumn Kelly; and her beloved pets — Onyx, Taz, and Ruthie.
Her loss leaves a deep void in the local media landscape and in the hearts of all who knew her. Tributes continue to pour in from friends, colleagues, and listeners who remember her not just for her voice on the radio, but for the joy, humor, and compassion she brought to every endeavor.
