ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, IN — Authorities have released new details in a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of 24-year-old Jaivon Best early Monday morning along Jefferson Boulevard.

According to the St. Joseph County Police Department, officers responded to the area around 6 a.m. on July 1 following reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Best, who was walking along the roadway at the time of the incident, was critically injured and transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators have identified the driver as 18-year-old Liliia Hrushka, who initially fled the scene but was later located by authorities. Police say Hrushka is now cooperating with the investigation. She was reportedly not injured in the crash.
