MARGATE, UK (August 7, 2025) – Heartbreak has swept through the Kent community following the tragic death of four-year-old Zaahir Jan, who was fatally struck by a bus outside Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital on Thursday afternoon.
Kent Police responded to Ramsgate Road shortly after 4:00 p.m., after receiving reports of a collision involving a white single-decker bus and a young pedestrian near the entrance to the hospital’s A&E department.
Authorities say Zaahir had just left the hospital with his family when the devastating incident occurred. Despite immediate medical attention, he was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. His next of kin has been informed, and support is being provided to the grieving family.
Witness Appeal
Detectives from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) have launched an appeal for witnesses, CCTV, and dashcam footage. They are particularly interested in speaking with passengers on the bus who have not yet come forward.

A Mother’s Devastating Plea
Zaahir’s heartbroken mother, Azaria, shared her pain through a GoFundMe page created in her son’s memory. In a raw and emotional post, she recounted the harrowing moments of the day:
“Today on the 7th of August 2025, me and my family went to visit our mum at Margate Hospital. My son, who is only 4 years old, fell under a bus and he died immediately. I am so lost. He was my most beautiful little Jan. I didn’t even get to tell him how much I love him.”
She described Zaahir as a sweet, funny boy with a cheeky smile that could light up a room — a child full of life, laughter, and love. Her post captures the unimaginable grief of losing a child so young and so suddenly:
“Can’t hold him. Can’t cuddle him. Can’t hear him. Can’t have him sleeping in my bed tonight. But I can try to give him the best and most comfortable burial.”
The fundraiser has been launched to help provide Zaahir with the funeral he deserves. Community members and well-wishers have already begun sharing messages of support and contributing to the campaign.
Community in Mourning
Zaahir’s tragic passing has sparked an outpouring of grief across Margate and beyond. The collision has deeply affected not just the family, but everyone who has heard their story. As investigations continue, the community stands united in mourning the loss of a life taken far too soon.
