Matthew Anthony Winkler, born on May 24, 1994, passed away unexpectedly on January 7, 2025. He was the first-born child of Tony and Rhonda Winkler, arriving just two minutes before his twin sister, Mikayla. Matthew was a beloved husband, father, and friend, deeply cherished by his family and the Folsom community.
Throughout his life, Matthew was known for his warm and compassionate nature. He had a gift for making people feel valued and included, always paying attention to those who might otherwise be overlooked. His playful spirit and sense of humor brought light to every gathering, and he cherished moments spent with his siblings and extended family.
Matthew’s passion for sports was a defining aspect of his life. He excelled in multiple sports, including baseball, soccer, basketball, and football, but it was in track and field where he truly stood out. Competing for Vista del Lago High School and later American River College, Matthew’s talent was unmatched. His record in the 1500-meter race at Vista del Lago remains unbroken, a testament to his extraordinary skill and dedication.
Matthew is survived by his parents, Tony and Rhonda Winkler; his twin sister, Mikayla (Tommy) Wieser, and niece, Olivia; his brothers, Jacob (Noelle) and Joshua (Meghan); his grandfather, Phil Liberti; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. His passing leaves an unfillable void, but the cherished memories of his life will continue to provide comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.
A Funeral Mass to honor Matthew’s life will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Folsom on February 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. This gathering will be an opportunity for the community to come together to remember and honor a remarkable young man whose life touched so many.
In this time of profound loss, we hold close the memories of Matthew’s radiant smile, his infectious laughter, and his unyielding love for his family and friends. His legacy of kindness, joy, and love will continue to inspire and guide us all. Rest in peace, Matthew Anthony Winkler. You will be deeply missed, but your light will shine forever in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know you.
