DURHAM, N.C. — A deadly crash Sunday evening near Roxboro Street left three people dead and several others injured, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Authorities said the collision happened around 6:40 p.m. on U.S. Highway 501. Investigators believe a black 2003 Infiniti traveling southbound crossed the center line and collided head-on with a northbound black Honda CR-V driven by Sandra Marie Moore, 58, of Bahama.

Following the initial impact, the Infiniti continued on and struck a red Lincoln Navigator driven by David Aguilar Mora of Timberlake, who was also traveling northbound, authorities said.
The driver of the Infiniti, whose name has not yet been released, and a passenger, identified as Mercedes Toledo-Goss, were both ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Moore, the driver of the Honda CR-V, also died at the scene, according to officials.
All three occupants of the Lincoln Navigator were transported to Duke University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators revealed that, prior to the crash, a Durham County Sheriff’s Office deputy had attempted to stop the Infiniti in connection with reports of shots fired between two vehicles near the 8200 block of Ball Road shortly before 6:30 p.m. Authorities said the second vehicle involved in the shooting incident has not yet been located.
The exact number of individuals involved in the crash has not been confirmed, and the circumstances leading up to the incident remain under investigation.
State Highway Patrol and Durham County authorities continue to piece together the sequence of events that led to the tragic crash.
