Two individuals lost their lives in a Saturday morning shooting at a Luke gas station in Merrillville, Indiana—a tragedy that authorities have confirmed was a murder-suicide linked to a domestic dispute.
At approximately 9:43 a.m., the Merrillville Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at the gas station, located at 721 W. Lincoln Highway, just west of Interstate 65. Upon arrival, officers discovered two deceased individuals inside the store, both having sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Investigators later identified one of the victims as Amanda, the store manager, who had a restraining order against her ex-husband—the suspected shooter. Authorities confirmed that the two people involved were acquainted, though the full circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
For several hours following the incident, law enforcement and Lake County Coroner’s Office officials remained at the scene. The entire gas station was cordoned off with yellow police tape, and evidence markers were placed throughout the store. By shortly after noon, coroner’s officials were seen transporting the bodies from the scene.
Officials stressed that there is no ongoing threat to the public, as the incident has been classified as domestic-related. However, investigators continue to work diligently to uncover the events that led to this tragic loss.
In a statement, the Merrillville Police Department extended its heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones affected by the incident:
“The Merrillville Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this senseless loss. Our thoughts are with them during this incredibly difficult time.”
A representative from the Luke gas station mentioned that another employee was present in the store at the time of the shooting, although it remains unclear whether this individual was directly involved. The company has refrained from commenting further until law enforcement concludes its investigation.
Authorities are urging anyone with additional information about the case to contact Merrillville Police Detective Alexander Van Rite at avanrite@merrillville.in.gov. This is a developing story, and further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
