KANSAS CITY, MO — With profound sadness and heavy hearts, the family and friends of Michelle Howe-Long announce her passing on May 5, 2025, following a brave and agonizing battle with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS)/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TENS), a rare and devastating medical condition caused by a 1-in-a-million allergic reaction to a medication.

Michelle’s final days were marked by immense strength, unwavering faith, and the enduring love of her family. Her journey, though marked by unimaginable suffering, became a testament to her courage and resilience — qualities that defined her throughout her life. Surrounded by her loved ones, she was called home to heaven, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, selflessness, and compassion.

A resident of Kansas City, Missouri, Michelle was more than a mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend — she was a source of light to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness was instinctive, her laughter infectious, and her love for others truly limitless. Whether through her involvement in the community, her dedication to her family, or the strength of her faith, Michelle impacted countless lives with quiet grace and unwavering devotion.

Michelle’s final struggle came after she suffered a rare reaction to a medication, developing SJS/TENS, a severe and life-threatening disorder that affects the skin and mucous membranes. Despite every medical effort and countless prayers, the condition advanced rapidly. Yet throughout her suffering, Michelle remained a pillar of faith — courageous, loving, and deeply rooted in her trust in God.

She leaves behind a heartbroken but deeply grateful family, who describe her as “the strongest woman we’ve ever known.” To her children, she was not only a mother but a role model and best friend. To her husband, she was a partner in every sense — full of grace, humor, and unconditional love. To her friends, Michelle was a gentle presence, a listening ear, and a source of unwavering support.

A celebration of Michelle’s life will be held on Saturday, May 10th, at Radiant Life Church in Kearney, Missouri. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friends, family, and members of the community are invited to attend, share memories, and honor a life that was as beautiful as it was inspiring.

The Howe and Long families extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical professionals who fought alongside Michelle, as well as to the many friends, neighbors, and loved ones who provided comfort and prayer throughout this difficult time.

Michelle’s journey may have ended far too soon, but the impact of her life will be felt forever. Her legacy of love, kindness, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
