Mount Pleasant, TX Mourns the Loss of 13-Year-Old Ava Claire Hageman

The community of Mount Pleasant, Texas is mourning the tragic death of 13-year-old Ava Claire Hageman, who passed away over the weekend. Authorities have confirmed that her death was the result of suicide, prompting an overwhelming wave of grief and support from students, educators, neighbors, and community members who knew and loved her.

Ava Claire was the daughter of Jennifer Hageman and the cherished sister of Holland. She was connected to both Chapel Hill Junior High School and Mount Pleasant Junior High School, where she was known for her bright personality, kindness, and the friendships she formed. Those who knew her remember a young girl whose warmth and joyful spirit had a way of uplifting those around her.

Her passing has had a profound impact on students and staff across both school communities, many of whom are struggling to process the loss of such a young, vibrant life. Counselors and school officials have emphasized the availability of mental health support for anyone affected during this difficult time.

A funeral service honoring Ava Claire will be held on Thursday, December 11, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant.

In lieu of flowers, the Hageman family has requested donations to support two community-focused projects: the renewal of Dellwood Park and the construction of a community pool. These initiatives are intended to honor Ava Claire’s memory by creating spaces that promote joy, connection, and togetherness — values her family says she embodied. Donations may be made through Pilgrim’s Bank by contacting Tisha at 903-434-2012, requesting Jason Snodgrass, or speaking directly with a bank teller.

The family has expressed deep gratitude for the compassion, prayers, and support shown by the community as they navigate an unimaginable loss.

Bates-Cooper Sloan Funeral Home is overseeing arrangements.
