According to authorities, a three-vehicle collision in Port St. Lucie on Tuesday night claimed the life of a 20-year-old Martin County man.
Police said the collision occurred at the intersection of Southeast Crosstown Parkway and S U.S. Highway 1 at approximately 10:20 p.m.
According to investigators, a 2023 BMW motorcycle was in the outer lane of S U.S. Highway 1 heading north. A bunch of other motorcycle riders were riding beside the rider. In addition, a 2022 GMC pickup was traveling north in the inside lane and a 2013 Honda four-door was traveling north in the center lane.
According to police, the BMW motorcycle tried to cross over from the outside lane to enter the left turn lanes of S U.S. Highway 1 without realizing that the group of other motorcycles had merged into the turn lanes to turn westbound onto Southeast Crosstown Parkway. However, the BMW failed to yield the right of way to the Honda and sideswiped the Honda.
According to officers, the helmet-wearing motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle and into the path of the GMC by the impact.
The motorcycle on the inside lane was then hit by the GMC’s driver.
After suffering severe injuries, 20-year-old Palm City resident Nathaniel Mulak was transported to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, where, according to authorities, he was declared dead at 11:45 p.m.
The Stuart woman who was driving the Honda was unharmed. The Port St. Lucie man who was operating the GMC pickup was likewise unharmed.
