The Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision in Caroline County that claimed the life of a teenager on Sunday.
The victim, identified as 17-year-old Trevor Whiteley from Federalsburg, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services. Whiteley was a passenger in a 2010 Ford Fusion involved in the crash.
Troopers from the Easton Barrack responded to the incident shortly before midnight on January 19, 2025. The crash occurred on Route 313, north of Chipmans Lane in Federalsburg. Preliminary investigations suggest that the Ford Fusion was traveling south on Route 313 when it rear-ended a dump truck operated by 24-year-old William Andrew of Cordova, Maryland.
According to authorities, the dump truck, contracted by the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, had stopped partially on the shoulder and roadway for snow removal and salting operations. The driver of the Ford Fusion, 19-year-old Nathan D’Orlando from Denton, Maryland, was airlifted to Shock Trauma by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command. Andrew declined medical transport.
The Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division conducted a post-crash inspection of the dump truck, while the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with road closures. Investigators are looking into whether alcohol may have played a role in the collision. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.
