Nina Burgess Obituary – Cause of Death: 52-year-old Tameside woman named as body found at the Marple Aqueduct in Stockport

Police have confirmed the identity of the woman whose body was discovered at the Marple Aqueduct in Stockport last week. She has been named as Nina Burgess, 52, of Tameside.

Emergency services were called to the Peak Forest Canal at around midday on Friday, August 22, following a report of a concern for welfare. On arrival, officers and paramedics located Ms. Burgess on the grass near the canal, where she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The aqueduct, which links Marple and Romiley and carries the Peak Forest Canal across the River Goyt, was taped off for several hours while police conducted their investigation. The death has since been confirmed as not suspicious.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said:

“At around 12pm today we were called to reports of a concern for welfare by Peak Forest Canal, Marple. Emergency services attended and sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing.”

South Manchester Coroner’s Court confirmed on Friday, August 29, that the case has been referred to their office. An inquest into Ms. Burgess’s death is expected to open at a later date.
