LEE’S SUMMIT, MO — A tragic bicycle accident claimed the life of 14-year-old Noah Lakey on Wednesday morning, June 11, near the intersection of SW Jefferson Street and SW Scherer Road in Lee’s Summit. The young teen, a resident of Lee’s Summit, was identified by authorities Thursday as the victim of the fatal crash.
According to Lee’s Summit Police, emergency crews were dispatched to the scene around 10:00 a.m. following multiple reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. The initial investigation revealed that Noah had been riding southbound on the sidewalk along the east side of SW Jefferson Street when he entered the westbound lanes of SW Scherer Road and collided with a vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was evaluated by paramedics but declined medical transport. Noah was transported to a nearby trauma center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The loss of the young teen has left the community heartbroken, with tributes pouring in from family, friends, and schoolmates who describe Noah as a kind, bright, and adventurous spirit who loved biking and spending time outdoors.
The Lee’s Summit Police Department confirmed that the crash remains under active investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.
