The 864 Elite Volleyball Club, along with communities across the nation, is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Payce Chappell, a vibrant athlete who passed away on July 1, 2025, after a sudden and severe medical emergency. Payce, a beloved member of the 864 Elite Volleyball Club, touched countless lives with her joyful spirit, unshakable determination, and the love she poured into the game she adored.
Just hours before she fell ill, Payce was doing what she loved most—competing with her teammates, smiling from the heart, and lifting others up with her infectious energy. She played her final match on Court 1, helping lead her team to a first-place victory. Those who were there that evening remember her laughter, her focus, and the unmistakable glow of a child completely in her element. The joy on her face captured everything she brought to the game—and to life.
Her sudden hospitalization stunned the 864 Elite family and everyone who knew her. As she was placed on a ventilator, fighting for her life, prayers poured in from across the volleyball community and beyond. Those closest to her clung to hope and leaned on faith. But on July 1, Payce was called home.
Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges, the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, often caused by infection. It can be a serious condition, particularly bacterial meningitis, and requires urgent medical attention. Symptoms include fever, headache, and stiff neck, but can also include nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light, confusion, and seizures.
Though we are shattered by this loss, we believe with full hearts that Payce entered Heaven with the same radiant smile she wore that final night on the court. She has now received a crown that no tournament can offer—the eternal reward of peace, love, and joy in the presence of her Heavenly Father.
“That night, she played like a champion. Today, she rests in the arms of the true Champion. God welcomed her home not with medals or trophies, but with a peace this world cannot give. She now takes her place on the ultimate Court #1, where love never ends and victory is eternal.”
Payce was more than an athlete. She was a daughter, a teammate, a friend, and a light. Her laughter could lift a room. Her passion on the court pushed others to be better. Her kindness made everyone feel seen. In her short time here, she left a lasting impact that will be felt for years to come.
To her family—there are no words strong enough to carry the weight of your grief, but please know that you are not alone. We are holding you in prayer, in memory, and in community. We grieve with you, we honor Payce with you, and we promise to carry her spirit forward in all that we do.
Payce, you will always be our MVP—our Most Valuable Presence.
We will miss your smile, your strength, and your heart.
You played with joy. You lived with grace. And now you rest in peace.
