It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Ryan K. Ponick, 26, of Stanley, Wisconsin, who tragically passed away on April 23, 2025. Ryan was born on February 28, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to Todd and Kim (Johnson) Ponick. His untimely death has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his family, friends, teammates, and community.
Ryan was raised in Stanley, where he attended Stanley-Boyd High School and graduated in 2017. His journey in education and sports then led him to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he earned a degree in Psychology with a minor in Coaching. His time at UW-Whitewater was not only marked by academic achievements but by his immense dedication to athletics, most notably as a football player. Ryan played collegiate football alongside his brother Ron, where he served as team captain. His leadership on the field was a reflection of the qualities he embodied off the field: commitment, passion, and a heart for others.
A Passion for Helping Others
Ryan’s commitment to helping others was evident in both his athletic and personal life. As a mentor, he took great pride in coaching and guiding young athletes, offering them the same leadership and support that he had received. His presence was a guiding light to many, encouraging others to push through adversity and be the best version of themselves. Whether he was on the football field or in everyday life, Ryan’s enthusiasm was contagious. He had an innate ability to uplift those around him, making them feel special and supported. His generosity and kindness knew no bounds.

When Ryan wasn’t pouring into others, he was surrounded by his beloved family. Ryan’s bond with his family was unshakable, and his parents, Todd and Kim, were the center of his world. He also cherished the time he spent with his brother Ron, whom he was very close to, and his extended family, all of whom he deeply loved and held dear.
Outside of football and coaching, Ryan enjoyed the simpler pleasures of life: hunting, fishing, and taking walks in the woods. These activities brought him peace and allowed him to connect with nature in a way that further embodied his calm, reflective spirit. Ryan found joy in the quiet moments and the companionship of his loved ones and four-legged friend, Hudson, who was a special companion throughout his life.
A Legacy of Leadership and Inspiration
Ryan’s leadership and dedication on the football field mirrored the way he approached all aspects of his life. He wasn’t just a player; he was a mentor, a guide, and a friend to everyone he met. Ryan’s impact extended far beyond his accomplishments in football, with his ability to motivate, inspire, and encourage others being his true legacy. His words of encouragement were a constant source of strength for his teammates—his “brothers”—family, and community. Ryan’s life was defined by his integrity, his tireless work ethic, and his unwavering love for others.
Ryan’s passing has left a deep sadness in the hearts of all who knew him, but it is also a reminder of the lasting impact one individual can have on so many lives. His dedication to others, his heart of gold, and his genuine kindness have made him a beloved figure in his community and beyond. Ryan’s spirit will live on in the lives he touched, and his memory will continue to inspire everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.
