Salvador Coronado named as driver in Racine high-speed crash that killed 17-year-old Tyreana Scales and injured multiple teens

RACINE, WI – A tragic high-speed crash early Sunday morning, March 9, claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl and left multiple teens injured.

Authorities confirmed that Tyreana Scales was among the passengers inside a Chevy Impala when a speeding Chevy Camaro violently crashed into it near the intersection of 16th and Taylor.

According to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy in a marked squad car observed the Camaro speeding at more than 90 mph and attempted to follow. Moments later, the Camaro collided with the Impala, which was carrying several Racine teenagers.

Scales sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she later died. The conditions of the other injured teens remain undisclosed.

Driver Identified with Prior Offenses

Authorities identified the Camaro’s driver as 34-year-old Salvador Coronado of Racine. Court records reveal that Coronado has a history of traffic violations, including speeding, reckless driving, operating while intoxicated (OWI), and fleeing from police.

The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine potential charges against Coronado.
