Law enforcement agencies in Richlands, North Carolina, are continuing to investigate a shooting reported Sunday afternoon in the area of Luther Banks Road and Gregory Fork Road, according to the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the scene at approximately 3:27 p.m. on December 28 after receiving reports of gunfire. Authorities initially confirmed that two people were critically injured. Officials have since confirmed that one of the victims has died, while the second remains in critical condition. The identities of the victims have not been officially released.
The shooting reportedly occurred near LGM Church on Luther Banks Road. Law enforcement officers remain on scene and are actively searching for the suspect. Authorities have identified the suspect as Craig North, who is believed to be driving a black Cadillac Escalade with dealer tags.
In a public safety notice, the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office urged residents to avoid the area as the investigation and search continue.
“Deputies are investigating a shooting in the area of Luther Banks Road and Gregory Fork Road,” the sheriff’s office stated. “Law enforcement is currently on scene and continuing the search for the suspect. Please avoid the area. Updates will be shared as soon as possible.”
According to an individual familiar with the situation, the victim who died was the owner of Sammy’s Used Cars, a locally known dealership located at 8702 Richlands Highway in Richlands. The source stated that the suspect is the victim’s son and that the shooting followed a disagreement earlier in the day. Authorities have not yet confirmed these details.
